Nowadays I write segments for live national television, but in college I reported on topics ranging from journalism ethics, music therapy in hospice centers, and the creative steps public schools take to fill labor shortages. Give 'em a read!
When JoNel Aleccia found herself cold calling people whose relatives recently died by suicide, she wasn’t sure what the right protocol was.
“You need to tell these humans stories to make your reporting resonate so that other people in the world know what a huge problem it actually is while being really sensitive to the families.”
Music helps people. In a study conducted in 2016, two researchers found that children with autism who struggled to interact and face their therapists were able to do so once music was playing, saying that in some cases, “the client runs and jumps around the room often in synchrony with the music.”
Despite the ongoing labor shortage within the United States, the Syracuse City School District has been able to recruit qualified candidates for various positions within the district’s 37 schools. Faced with a need to diversify their workforce, as well as to provide a strong education to the more than 21,000 students that attend the various schools, the district has been successful in bringing in new talent to fill executive positions.
